12 Fragrant Plants That Repel Mosquitoes
We’ve all been there, the itching, the bleeding, the calamine lotion. The last thing I want when enjoying a summer night in my backyard with friends is a horde of mosquitoes ruining our barbeque and my skin. Rather than douse yourself in sticky or greasy lotions and spray, plant your very own mosquito deterrent and enjoy your summer in peace.
1. Peppermint
Peppermints’ minty scent is sure to perk you up every morning as you leave for work. Not only will peppermint repel mosquitos, it also offers larvicidal protection. In a study published by Malaria Journal, mosquito larvae that were exposed to peppermint oil and water were dead within 24 hours. If mosquitoes are severe, crush the leaves to release an even stronger aroma.
2. Lavender
Lavender scented perfumes and body washes are always an easy sell, so give your lawn the type of perfume it deserves while protecting yourself from annoying, blood-sucking pests. Plant lavender around entertainment and gathering areas or in pots around windows and doors. It can also be rubbed into your skin for a personal mosquito repellent. Great to attract bees.. bees are good 🙂
