Using Copper Pennies to Help Prevent Blight on Tomato Plants?

If you’re in an area of the country where you are blessed with a lot of rain, you may find yourself with a blight problem on your tomato plants. You can also encourage blight by the way you water; overwatering with a sprinkler where the water bounces up from the ground can also cause blight.

Blight is caused by a fungus or bacteria that bounces up from the ground, and the blight attaches itself to the leaves of your unsuspecting, defenseless plants. Make sure you water your plants early in the day to give the leaves a chance to dry out before nightfall. Also, water using a soaker hose or drip irrigation.

If you do suspect you have blight, confirm it. Blight will be a circular spot in your leaf, brownish or yellowish in color. (see image above)
